More than 300 extra ICT workers step up growth ambitions in Belgium
Brussels, 1 June 2018 - The acquisition of ICT integrator Nextel by Telenet has been finalized. Last week, Telenet got the go-ahead from the Belgian Competition Authority to take over TelelinQ, the parent company behind Nextel. This acquisition puts Telenet Business in a stronger position to create more competition in the business market. It will now be able to offer all-in-one solutions to medium-sized and large companies.
The acquisition of Nextel is in keeping with the strategy of developing Telenet into a leading player for fixed and mobile networks in the corporate market. Initially, the two organizations will operate alongside each other, and the brand name ‘Nextel’ will remain.
The aim is, eventually, for businesses to get one point of contact for all telephony and network solutions, such as telephone exchange in the cloud, integrated communication services, Internet of Things and LAN/WiFi solutions, camera surveillance and access control to buildings. Nextel already offers those services to more than 5,000 customers and on 10,000 sites of large companies, SMEs, healthcare institutions, non-profit organizations and public authorities.
With the acquisition of Nextel, Telenet reinforces its B2B division with more than 300 ICT specialists, enabling the telecom operator to custom-build all-in-one ICT solutions for businesses.
“The activities of Telenet Business and Nextel are highly complementary. This is a growth story. Nextel offers total telecom solutions in which all services and devices are attuned to each other, whereas Telenet Business primarily provides fixed and mobile telecom services and data security solutions. Together we can now offer all-in-one solutions. Thanks to this acquisition, we now have around 1,000 people working on the business market. We can now also concentrate fully on further growth in Brussels and Wallonia, two markets that still hold tremendous potential for Telenet.” Martine Tempels, Senior Vice-President Telenet Business
“I firmly believe that the Telenet/Nextel combination will give our customers’ business an extra boost and a greater edge in their market. Moreover, Telenet is an excellent environment for the Nextel staff to further develop their ambitions and creativity.” Peter Roelens, CEO of TelelinQ
On 22 May, Telenet Group BVBA got the go-ahead from the Belgian Competition Authority to take over TelelinQ NV. The acquisition encompasses its subsidiaries Nextel NV, Nextel Telecom Solutions NV, the Belgian integrator divisions of the company, and TelelinQ Distribution and Finance NV, the provider of rental and leasing solutions for ICT equipment. On 1 June, a board of directors will be appointed within each of those entities, with Peter Roelens acting as managing director. As managing director, Peter Roelens will report to the boards of directors of the Nextel entities and of their shareholder, Telenet BVBA, of which Martine Tempels will also be a member.
