Brussels, 16 November 2018 – The 9th edition of the Belgian HR Excellence Awards was held at the Château de Genval, attended by 700 HR sector professionals. Manpower won an award as the ‘Best Staffing, Sourcing & Contingent Workforce Company.’ This is in recognition of Manpower’s Technical Academy project, an innovative solution to address the shortage of candidates with much-needed technical skills.
Each year, the HR Excellence Awards recognize outstanding HR service providers offering innovative solutions and providing added value to their clients – employers in both the public and private sectors. The jury, made up of 12 HR Directors and chaired by Jean-Marc Verbist, Chief HR Officer at Degroof Petercam, awarded prizes in 12 categories representing the main areas of expertise required by HR departments – be it recruitment, skills assessment, training, change management, employer branding or HR technology.
Manpower won the award for ‘Best Staffing, Sourcing & Contingent Workforce Company’ for its Manpower Technical Academy project. Other nominees in this category included Randstad, Adecco , Solvus and Vivaldi. "It’s a great honour to receive this prestigious award, in the same year as Manpower’s 70th anniversary", said Philippe Lacroix, Managing Director of ManpowerGroup BeLux. "This award is in recognition of all ManpowerGroup colleagues who strive, every day, to put in place innovative solutions for our clients and offer talent the opportunity to grow, develop and access sustainable employment".
Talent shortages not unavoidable
The Manpower Technical Academy project demonstrates the new role that staffing companies are fulfilling on the labour market. More than just an intermediary between supply and demand for skills, they bring added value by broadening the talent pool in a market which is increasingly affected by talent shortages. Manpower’s solution – developed in partnership with the training specialist MaSEOS – offers training to technical operators over a four-week period, combining e-learning and practical training. In 2018, Manpower’s Technical Academy trained around 100 people and more than 75% found work. A special training course was set up with HR Rail to meet the SNCB’s need for technical profiles. "Talent shortages are not unavoidable, and solutions do exist, as long as all parties are involved. With the chance of a job in sight, the candidate is more motivated and committed throughout the entire process" concludes Philippe Lacroix.
