Ketchum, one of the world’s leading communication agencies, has announced that Auke Haagsma, a seasoned public affairs specialist and a former official of the European Commission has joined its Brussels office as Head of Public Affairs. At the Commission, Auke has assumed various responsibilities in areas such as environment, energy, transport, consumer protection, standards, competition policy, public procurement, food & health and international trade.
Since leaving the Commission, he has worked for many years as an independent consultant on these and other issues.
Auke Haagsma's arrival marks an important step in the development of Ketchum’s public affairs capability in Brussels. Auke's hands-on experience at the EU and his extensive network will allow Ketchum to offer existing and new clients high-level support in devising successful strategies that bring positive outcomes on regulatory and legislative processes at the EU. He will work with clients of the Brussels office and add an EU perspective to campaigns for clients serviced by Ketchum’s global network.
According to Auke, “Ketchum’s extensive, rapidly developing global network and its creative approach to public affairs are what attracted me to join this exciting company.”
Peter Otten, Managing Director of Ketchum’s Brussels office, said “At a time when the EU plays an increasingly important role in our clients' businesses, Auke’s arrival allows Ketchum to offer high quality strategic advice and support in all areas that affect their business.”
