The bilateral trade and investment relationship between Belgium and the United States is significant for both partners. In 2016, US companies started 31 of the 200 new foreign investment projects in Belgium, making the US the largest source of foreign direct investment in Belgium. This investment translates into jobs in the local economy. With more than 125,000 employees, American companies account for 4.3% of private sector employment in Belgium.

The relationship is reciprocal. The US is Belgium’s 5th largest trading partner overall and its most important trading partner outside of the EU. Foreign direct investment of Belgium in the US reached $89 billion in 2014.
