Philip Alliet, CEO of Aon Belgium and Luxembourg, was elected President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium (AmCham Belgium) by the Chamber’s Board of Directors last night for a one-year renewable term starting immediately.
Alliet, a Belgian citizen, is the first non-American to hold this position in the Chamber’s 70-year history. This reflects the growing trend for local affiliates of US multinational companies to be managed by local executives rather than expats.
Alliet brings to this position his extensive leadership experience in international business, including senior management roles at General Electric, TNT (now FedEx) and Bpost, as well as his strong network and knowledge of Belgian business and politics. He has been an active member of the AmCham Belgium Board of Directors since 2014 and has served as Vice-President under outgoing President Howard Liebman since 2017.
“It is an honor for me to head such a prestigious organization, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Board. I will continue the outstanding work of my predecessor and our other volunteer leaders in order to increase the influence and impact of AmCham Belgium in the public debate. Our goal is to make Belgium a better place to invest and do business for all our member companies,” said Philip Alliet.
In addition to AmCham Belgium, Alliet serves on a number of different supervisory boards. He holds a Master of Economics from the University of Antwerp and a post-graduate degree in business administration from Vlerick Business School.
