2019 Gala: A View from the Top

by Alexandra Trandafir, Communications & Community Manager, AmCham Belgium

On June 13, over 120 participants – members of our community and their guests – enjoyed friendly conversations, soulful musical entertainment and great food, all while admiring one of the best views over Brussels during AmCham Belgium’s 2019 Gala.

The evening was kicked off by AmCham Belgium President Howard Liebman, who started his speech with a joke, which is tradition for him. In his speech, Howard talked about the commitment of the US to Belgium and referred to the historic bond between our two countries – having just commemorated the 75th anniversary of D-Day. He also stressed the strength of this relationship in the present day which is proven by the consistently large US investments in Belgium. In fact, US companies were, once again, the most active foreign investors in Belgium in 2018! At AmCham Belgium, we are committed to build on this long history and positive momentum by working closely with the next governments to ensure Belgium remains a stable and attractive location to invest and do business.

Aside from the unique location – the Panoramic Hall of the Square – which inspired the overarching theme for the event – A View from the Top – the 2019 Gala stood out due to our guest of honor, US Ambassador to Belgium Ronald J. Gidwitz, who has become a good friend and ally of the international business community since he arrived here nearly one year ago.

"Business between the US and Belgium has never been better."
- US Ambassador Ronald Gidwitz

Following the introductory remarks from our President, Ambassador Gidwitz attested to the strength of the relationship between Belgium and the United States. Notably, “business between the US and Belgium has never been better”, the Ambassador said. The job numbers and investments from new and established US companies are testament to this long-standing relationship. We couldn’t agree more, and we are deeply grateful for the US Ambassador’s support and endorsement of our work.

Before guests made their way to the networking dessert, member company Brussels Airlines was invited on stage for the evening’s prize draw: the chance to win two round-trip tickets to the US in their newly launched Premium Economy class. Thank you Brussels Airlines for donating the tickets. While the lucky winner will get to try it out ‘in real life’, all of our guests had the opportunity to discover the new cabins with Brussels Airlines’ virtual reality experience.

We know that our events are a key touchpoint with our members, and the 2019 Gala: A View from the Top was no exception. We hope we were able to demonstrate our commitment to our member community, by not only delivering a special experience, but also by offering you the opportunity to connect with each other and engage in top-of-mind conversations.

Once again, thank you Ambassador Gidwitz for your support and collaboration.

Thanks to our Strategic Sponsors and to all 2019 Gala guests. We are always keen to hear your feedback on this event and our activities, in general, so please don’t hesitate to contact me.
