US companies demonstrate their commitment to Belgium by their decision to locate manufacturing facilities here. From chemicals and pharmaceuticals to food and beverages, US companies produce both consumer and industrial goods in Belgium, for local consumption and distribution around the world. Here are just a few of the products which are made by US companies in Belgium.

3M: Specialty chemicals and industrial abrasives

3M

3M produces half-finished materials, such as adhesives for its famous Post-It® Notes, in Zwijndrecht and products that facilitate the sanding, grinding and drilling of hard materials, steel or glass in Nivelles. Recent investments in the Zwijndrecht plant have increased the production capacity for specialty chemicals by a factor of five.

Axalta: Industrial liquid coatings

Axalta

Axalta has its headquarters and production site in Mechelen, where it produces liquid coatings primarily for the automotive industry, but also for buildings and pipelines. Their products are designed to prevent corrosion and increase the lifespan of materials.

Baxter: Parenteral bags and solutions

Baxter

Belgium is Baxter’s global base for the production of solutions and emulsions for parenteral nutrition. In 2015, Baxter produced 10 million nutrition bags and over 150 million empty bags for its renal and IV businesses at its manufacturing site in Lessines.

Cargill: Chocolate and other food ingredients

Cargill

Cargill produces and sells industrial chocolate, malt, oils and specialty texturizing ingredients in eight locations in Belgium: Antwerp, Ghent, Herent, Izegem, Mechelen, Mouscron and Vilvoorde. In 2015, Cargill invested €35 million to double the production capacity of its chocolate factory in Mouscron.

Coca-Cola: Non-alcoholic beverages

Coca-Cola produces and bottles soft drinks (and water) at its facilities in Antwerp, Chaudfontaine and Ghent. With 17 brands on the local market, the company sold 880 million liters of beverages in 2015, representing over 10.5 million consumptions per day in Belgium.

ExxonMobil: Petrochemicals, fuels and lubricants

ExxonMobil has one refinery and three chemical plants in Belgium, which produce fuels, lubricants and chemical products. The Antwerp refinery has a production capacity of approximately 320,000 barrels per day, and the company recently invested over $1 billion in a new coker unit.

Janssen: Pharmaceuticals and chemicals

Janssen manufactures more than 170 million packages of 50 different pharmaceutical and consumer products per year in Beerse. In Geel, the group produces over 50 different Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, with an annual output of some 420 million packages.

MSD: Medicines

MSD

MSD manufactures and packages tablets, liquids, ointments, creams, ampoules and vials in Heist-op-den-Berg, serving patients in more than 140 countries. MSD Heist produced 162 million sales packs in 2015, and the company has recently invested about $150 million in new facilities.

ON Semiconductor: Microelectronic components

ON Semiconductor

ON Semiconductor’s production center in Oudenaarde is focused on providing semiconductors for automotive, industrial and consumer applications.

Pfizer: Aseptic drugs

Pfizer

Pfizer formulates, fills, packages and ships aseptic drugs in Puurs. It is the company’s largest manufacturing and packaging site in Europe; Pfizer is planning to invest €100 million in Puurs in 2017.

Pittsburgh Corning: Cellular glass thermal insulation

Pittsburgh Corning

Pittsburgh Corning produced 310,000 m³ of its flagship product, FOAMGLAS®, at its manufacturing facility in Tessenderlo in 2015.

P&G: Laundry detergent and dishwasher tablets

P&G

P&G is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its manufacturing plant in Mechelen in 2016. At this site, P&G produces dishwater tablets and laundry products for consumers all around the world.

UNILIN: Flooring

Unilin

UNILIN produces laminate, engineered parquet and luxury vinyl flooring under the Quick-Step, Pergo and Balterio brands as well as wood-based panels (particle board, MDF), decorative panels, roof systems and insulation boards at nine different production sites in Belgium. The company recently invested €45 million in a new vinyl tile production plant in Wielsbeke.
